About
Hello! My name is Troy, and this is how I got here.
I am a native Chicagoan raised on the city’s South Side and born at the vanguard of Generation X. In my life, I have watched the world change in ways that are at once disturbing and hopeful. I discovered my love of words initially by reading children’s books; later through superhero comics; and later still through the songs of the lyrical masters of popular music.
By high school, I realized that I liked writing—the craft of conveying ideas and telling stories with words and my desire to write has been ever present since I was fifteen years old. However, my journey from discovery to doing was not a straight line; there were many detours along the way. Sometimes the desire was loud and urgent while at other times, merely a murmur. It was only much, much later in life that I came to understand writing as my vocation, a literal call from God.
This blog, Ruminati Writes, is my humble attempt to honor the call to write and share my thoughts and observations; my frustrations and struggles; and my hopes and joys with any who would spend a moment to read it.
